the mountains & the trees

I just discovered the loveliness that is the mountains & the trees, also known as Jon Janes. Janes seems to be a bit of a one-man-band often accompanied by the valleys & seas orchestra, a collective of friends with instruments. He also happens to be from my home province, the beautiful and rugged, newfoundland and labrador. This is what grabbed my attention at first, then it was the song "goodbye little town". It is the sweetest little song i've ever heard about lovin' and leavin' and made me homesick in an instant.

check him/them out on myspace or itunes.

"...so goodbye little town, so pretty by the sea. wasn't what you said, or anything you did, this time it's not you, it's me..."

macha jewellery

i stumbled upon this line of amazing jewellery today, macha jewellery, by Irish designer, Bernice Kelly.

i love how simple and organic her pieces are, esp the rockwell ring part 2 & part 3 (shown in photos 1-3), which showcases a hand-carved metal rock on a simple sterling silver band. stunning.

you can find more here at her etsy shop

tiny vipers

i very recently discovered tiny vipers, aka Jesy Fortino. I was drooling over some shoes on the dolce vita website and clicked to their blog where i saw a posting on the seattle-based musician. After a brief listen to songs on her myspace, i got her latest album, life on earth. it's hard for me to really describe the sound of the album or her voice (which at times reminds me of cat power and at others, of jeff hanson) other to say that it is hauntingly beautiful.

here's a live clip...

super fun

The Impossible Project inspires Polaroid to relaunch instant cameras..........yah!

"After all the difficulties and changes of ownership during the last years, the new management of Polaroid now understands the source of the brand's attraction - which is surprisingly not based in digital cameras but in Dr. Edwin Land's groundbreaking 1948 invention of Instant Photography, which he ingeniously devised and passionately developed with a lot of care and devotion.

Since 2005, it has been our honour and pleasure to celebrate and evoke the sensational and almost mysterious power of Instant Photography in memoriam of Dr. Land. Doing everything in our power to keep this beloved and unique photographic medium alive, we grabbed the chance to take over the last factory producing Instant films from the old Polaroid management and to start The Impossible Project in 2008. Re-inventing a new analog integral film, we are now preparing, supporting and managing the comeback of Instant Photography.

Accomplishing this mission and proudly owning the former Polaroid plant in Enschede (NL), as well as already holding the first working hand-coated samples in our trembling hands, we are pleased to herewith announce a history-making cooperation between The Impossible Project and Polaroid:

Polaroid will re-launch the legendary Polaroid One Step Camera and is therefore commissioning The Impossible Project to develop and produce a limited edition of Polaroid Instant Films in the middle of 2010."
